Kinship & Community: Selections from the Texas African American Photography Archive, copublished by Aperture and Documentary Arts, celebrates the rich history of photography made by and for Black communities across Texas. Bringing together more than 150 images from the final decades of official segregation in the United States, the publication considers photography as a vital means of collective self-representation.

The book concludes with a newly commissioned photographic essay by Rahim Fortune that engages the archive’s legacy and carries its themes of kinship, community, and self-determination into the present. Contributors include Nicole R. Fleetwood, Brian Wallis, Annette Gordon-Reed, Alan Govenar, and Deborah Willis.
